Penzance Tennis Open

THEY RETAINED THEIR TITLE!
??????????

Graham Brunton and Susie Scorse entered the over 60s mixed at the 74th Penzance Open which they won last year.
Knee brace for Graham and a knackered hip for Susie, was this a good idea?!

32 couples in their category!
4 trips to Penzance and back.

A bye in the first round!
The second round was against Penzance county veterans Paul and Lynn Heckford. Paul’s left handed slice shots, especially the serve, caused problems. Having nearly gone out in the first round last year, it was bit of a deja vu as they narrowly won the first set 7-5, lost the second 2-6 then managed to win a tight Championship tiebreaker 10-8.
Round three against Penzance couple Jackie Rice and Steve Cox was an easier win 6-1, 6-3.
Round four against Dave Murthwaite and Bryn Heale (last years opponents in the final) was another good win 6-1, 6-2 securing a place in the final.
Saturday’s final was against Robin and Beverly Halliday from Surrey. To say it didn’t start well is an understatement as they lost the first set 6-0 then went 4-2 down in the second set. Somehow they turned it around to force a championship tiebreaker which they won convincingly 10-4.
Falmouth had done it again!
